Brief description:
Audio letters from Almtal in Upper Austria to the Zambezi Valley and retour between teenage pupils (12 – 14 years-old) of cooperating schools in Almtal Austria, Sinazongwe Zambia and Binga Zimbabwe.
Content of letters:
hows life in Almtal / Zambezi Valley? ...and at school? How do you say … in ChiTonga…/ in Austria we say...? We’ve heard this about history/ Tonga / Zambezi Valley / music/ Zongwe FM; can you tell me (more) about...? is there a special music or cultural tradition in your area? How about chores for boys and girls? Do they differ? Hows climate change affecting you…? Here in Austria… What are your hopes for the future…? And your fears...? whats up…?
Media:
some learning input e.g. integrated in regular lessons or workshops with group of interested pupils; e.g. including excerpts of archived audio (see playlists) and collected “favourite sounds”; a correspondence of pupils via whatsapp. voice notes moderated by teachers/ radio moderators; live radio shows at Radio B138 and Zongwe FM potentially with direct on-air contact (22nd June see below)
Background:
The
school coop with radio camp forms part of a small project and
cultural exchange between Upper Austria and the Zambezi Valley based
on an ongoing history of cooperation and exchanges going back to the
1980s. This history has left extensive audio, video and radio traces
in online archives. This is the point to start from in the input
given to the teenagers.
Aims:
The initiating partner organisations would wish for the relationship and cultural exchange to continue afresh with young generations to come both in Upper Austria and the Zambezi Valley.
Playlists:
1.
a special project playlist “Zambezi Valley” based on older
archived audio resources (2012-18) was produced especially for pupils
and participants in the North to start listening South and “tune-in” [i.e. the present playlist]
2. before the audio correspondence begins all participants will introduce themselves in Audio with their name and a favourite sound in their area/ environment. Resulting playlists of favourite sounds will be shared online
